AWS Cloud Migration Engineer

About the role

This role focuses on planning, executing, and supporting enterprise cloud migrations to AWS, covering infrastructure, applications, databases, and data workloads. You will work across the complete migration lifecycle—from discovery and assessment through migration execution, cutover, validation, and hypercare.

The position requires strong hands-on experience with AWS migration services, core AWS infrastructure, migration methodologies, Infrastructure as Code, scripting, and operating system troubleshooting. You will work closely with application, infrastructure, database, security, and cloud teams to deliver reliable and well-managed migrations.

What You'll Do

• Plan and execute on-premises to AWS and cloud-to-cloud migrations for infrastructure, applications, databases, and data workloads.
• Perform discovery, dependency analysis, migration assessment, planning, execution, validation, cutover, and post-migration hypercare.
• Assess workloads using migration strategies such as the 6Rs — Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, Repurchase, Retire, and Retain.
• Use AWS-native migration tools and services, including infrastructure, application, database, and data migration capabilities.
• Design and configure AWS environments using EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, networking, security groups, NACLs, subnets, IAM, and related services.
• Automate infrastructure and migration activities using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Bash, and/or PowerShell.
• Troubleshoot Windows and Linux infrastructure, networking, permissions, services, and OS-level issues during migration.
• Monitor migrated workloads using Amazon CloudWatch, logs, metrics, and operational dashboards.
• Prepare and maintain migration plans, runbooks, cutover plans, validation checklists, rollback procedures, and post-migration documentation.
• Collaborate with application, database, infrastructure, security, and operations teams throughout the migration lifecycle.

Your Area of Specialization

You will primarily focus on AWS Cloud Migration Engineering, with strong hands-on expertise across one or more of the following areas:

• Infrastructure Migration – Server/workload migration, discovery and assessment, target architecture, migration execution, cutover, validation, and hypercare.
• Application Migration – Rehost, replatform, and modernization of applications while managing application dependencies and integration requirements.
• Database & Data Migration – Database assessment, migration, replication, validation, and data transfer using cloud-native migration services.
• Migration Automation & Platform Engineering – Terraform, CloudFormation, scripting, reusable infrastructure patterns, automation, and migration tooling.
• Windows & Enterprise Integration – Windows workload migration, Active Directory integration, domain management, Group Policies, licensing, and related enterprise considerations.

Strong AWS fundamentals and end-to-end migration experience are expected, with deep hands-on expertise in at least one of the above areas.

What We're Looking For

• 5–8 years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, migration, platform engineering, or a closely related role.
• Strong hands-on experience executing on-premises to cloud and/or cloud-to-cloud migrations, preferably with AWS as the target platform.
• Demonstrated experience across the complete migration lifecycle: discovery & assessment, planning, pre-migration preparation, execution, validation, cutover, rollback planning, and hypercare.
• Strong knowledge of migration methodologies, including the 6Rs framework, workload assessment, dependency identification, and migration strategy selection.
• Hands-on experience with AWS migration services and tools, including application/server, database, and data migration capabilities.
• Strong practical knowledge of EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Good understanding of AWS networking and security, including VPCs, public/private subnets, routing, security groups, NACLs, and multi-tier architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and AWS CloudFormation for repeatable infrastructure provisioning and migration automation.
• Proficiency in Bash and/or PowerShell for migration automation, configuration, data transfer, and validation activities.
• Practical troubleshooting experience across Windows and Linux, including networking, permissions, services, and OS-level configuration.
• Experience with CloudWatch, log analysis, performance monitoring, migration validation, and production troubleshooting.
• Understanding of Active Directory integration, domain management, Group Policies, and Windows workload migration considerations.
• Ability to create clear migration runbooks, implementation plans, cutover/rollback procedures, validation reports, and technical documentation.
• Good communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across application, infrastructure, database, security, and operations teams.
